TRINITY 5: God is love
Can’t put it off any longer! The God who is Trinity is good, good news because he is a God who is love! This is only possible because he is Trinity. He is perfectly and eternally satisfied in the loving relationship of three persons presented to us in the metaphors of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. One being who is eternally “the Father, loving the Son in the joy of the Holy Spirit”. At the centre of everything, and the reason for everything is love. Before any created matter existed: God is love. There is a moving dynamic of self-giving love within the life of the Trinity and at the root of all things. Isn’t that wonderful. Other ancient stories cite the conflict of the gods as the reason for creation, other worldviews offer blind chance as the source of being, but our Christian narrative unveils love as the reason behind all things. And we were made to share in the delight and love the Godhead enjoys. That’s why we sing about love, dream about love, write about love, philosophise about love, and yearn for love. For we have come from one who is love and we seek our rest in the love of the Three-in-one.
