Update from Morey in Bilolo

Gillian June 6th, 2010

(Friday 4th June 2010)

Just to say I am now in Bilolo.

We are now waiting for tea – curry! – shower is a bucket; toilet- a hole in the ground; rats, spiders, dogs, goats, pigs all about. Birds make a racket as do wild life at night.

The plan for the week is visiting people and other villages – including pigmy villages. I am preaching on Sunday. Will help Paul with some bible checking; help Jo with some teaching; there is a meeting planned with the other translators.

Also, time to sit and read and write. When we arrived having rained it was 36c in the shade; 40c in the sun.

Presentation 30th May: Another Jesus, Another Gospel

Gillian May 27th, 2010

Presentation on Pseudo-Christian Religions (cults)
(30 May, from 7pm, at St. Leonard’s)

Another Jesus, Another Gospel: Discerning the Imitations.

Is the Bible reliable? Is the Trinity true? What do Jehovah’s Witnesses teach? Is Mormonism another Christian church? What are the differences? Does it really matter? These and other questions will be addressed by Kevin James Bywater (director of the Summit Oxford Study Centre). A former-Mormon, Kevin regularly speaks on the subjects of comparative religions and the truth of the Christian faith.

Vicar’s Sabbatical News

Gillian May 27th, 2010

Email received 25 May 2010: He is having a great time – learning lots and meeting loads of new people at the Wycliffe conference in Bangui. He’s recovered from the initial sickness bug he had and, but for the heat and insect bites (which were all predicted), is doing very well.

Who is Alpha for?
Alpha is for everyone; no question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish. We don’t assume any background knowledge of or belief in Christianity and everyone is welcome.

What is Alpha?
Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in an informal, fun and friendly environment. The Alpha course consists of a series of talks, looking at topics including ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘Why and how do I pray?’. We meet for supper and each talk is followed by discussion in small groups.

Alpha runs for ten weeks. You don’t have to come to the whole course – just pop along for the first night and see what you think.

The introductory supper on Tuesday 26th January 2010.

If you are interested in coming on the Alpha Course please do contact:
